Bus or Train?

The transport links between England and Paris are varied and numerous, especially when traveling from London. But which is the best way to get there for you? Flying? Driving? The train? Or bus?

Paris and London are two of the most populated and important cities in Europe, and are only separated by some 200 plus miles as the crow flies. But which is going to be the best way to get there? A flight with a budget airline? Driving by car and ferry? Maybe the Eurostar train? Or perhaps you should consider taking the bus to Paris, especially if you are looking for a cheaper alternative.

There are plenty of flights, of course, plus the option of taking the car across the English Channel, via one of the many ferries or the Channel Tunnel. But recently, by far and away the most popular way to get from London to Paris is by passenger train with Eurostar.

Eurostar trains began taking passengers from London Waterloo to Paris Nord in 1996. The trains now depart from the spectacularly renovated St Pancras International terminal, and arrive in Paris just over 2 hours later. With prices starting under £100 return, you can be forgiven for thinking that there’s no need to consider taking a bus or coach to Paris.

But then the bus companies, led by Eurolines, fought back. They upgraded the comfort levels inside all of their coaches, and included comfortable seats with plenty of legroom, plus on-board toilet facilities and air conditioning. Of course there isn’t much they could do about the journey times, since they have to stick to the legal speed limit, but faster and better road networks and ferries have meant that the journey by coach to Paris is quicker than ever before. and if that wasn’t enough to get customer coming back, Eurolines and other bus companies realised and understood exactly what their typical customer wanted: cheap fares. And this is where the bus companies really fought back, by offering amazing deals, including Paris for under £10!
